The history of VAUDE begins with Albrecht von Dewitz and his love for mountain sports, that is how in the fine mountain air of the Alps, he matures in 1974, a daring idea: to turn his hobby into a profession and that is how he founded the VAUDE company, which named it after its initials, v. D. (pronounced [fau'de]).

In the 1970s, mountain sports displaced traditional beach vacations, people wanted adventure activities carried out with high-quality equipment. This is how VAUDE began producing backpacks that could be used for expeditions in the Himalayas as well as for walks in the Taunus, which is a mountain range in Germany that does not exceed 900 meters above sea level.

Gradually the German brand has expanded the range of products. In the early 1980s they launched the first breathable tent, in 1992 the Bike Sport product line arrived, offering cycling clothing and accessories.

In 2001 they incorporate the bluesign® system, which is a safe and environmentally friendly way of production, eliminating harmful substances from the beginning of the manufacturing process, establishing and controlling the standards for safe and sustainable production.

In 2009 the founder's daughter took over the reins of the company, with the arrival of Antje von Dewitz, VAUDE sets new challenges to become a leading brand in Germany and the world in sustainable processes.
