In 1965, Dr. Smith created the world's first heat-sealed goggles that allowed people to have a blast on days when the rest of the world would have had to stay home without them. 50 years later, his vision hasn't changed.
To test his invention, Bob Smith moved to Utah, where he loaned his invention to Ski Patrol in exchange for ski passes and then told them how their goggles were doing. In 1965, he patented the invention and founded Smith Optics. In the early 1970s, he moved to Ketchum, Idaho. In 1971, he invented the Turbo Fan Constant Air Management System, and by the end of the decade, he was selling 200,000 units a year. In 1991, he sold the company, and today Smith Optics has a 45% market share in the United States and is present in 50 countries.
