A NAME, A CITY, A HISTORY

Burgundy, famous throughout the world for its wines, is a land of ancestral know-how, in the wine field of course, but also in the industrial field with a tradition of mining and textile industries.

It is no coincidence that Monnet was born and developed in Montceau Les Mines, as the former mining area is also one of the historical cradles of French textiles.

Indeed, at the time, wives often knitted while men worked in the mines.

At the beginning of the last century, in the 1930s, Mr François Monnet, a merchant-bonnetier in Montceau les Mines, offered his customers custom-made products. Given the success of his creations, François Monnet went from being a retailer to a manufacturer, relying on the know-how of the region's inhabitants.

During the following years, Mr. Monnet observed the emergence of the first winter sports resorts and the development of skiing, and directed his production towards textile articles for sport, particularly ski socks.
