In 1884, Karl Elsener opened a knife workshop in Ibach-Schwyz. At that time Switzerland was still one of the poorest countries in Europe. In the early years, Karl Elsener fought to combat poverty and unemployment in the Schwyz basin, creating jobs and helping stem the flow of emigration. In 1891, it supplied the Swiss Army with military knives for the first time. In 1897, he developed the Swiss officer and sports knife, which is now the iconic Swiss Army Knife, thereby laying the foundation for a flourishing company that would be able to sustain its position on the world stage. From then on, his spirit of solidarity, his deep roots in the region and his strong commitment to solid values shaped the philosophy of the Victorinox company. |
