Sandvik 12C27 stainless steel fine-tuned by Opinel is renowned for its cut and ease of use. Stainless steel is capable of undergoing the heat treatment that gives it its great durability and is called martensitic. It has a large amount of carbon, at least 0.40%, which allows a very satisfactory cut without being sensitive to corrosion. Blade hardness 57-58 HRC
The traditional blade of Opinel is the blade called Yatagan. Its shape is inspired by a Turkish saber, with the tip raised. The blade is furnished according to an exclusive curved profile that guarantees the solidity of the blade and allows efficient sharpening.
Beech is the most used wood for the manufacture of Opinel handles. It comes from French farms, it is hard, resistant and easy to work with. With a homogeneous appearance, its clear color varies from yellow to pink. It is easily recognizable by the presence of several dark strokes. The varnished handle is protected from stains and moisture.
Invented by Marcel Opinel, the Virobloc safety ring is on all folding knives starting with No. 06. Cut from stainless steel, the Virobloc is made up of two parts: a fixed part and a sliding part. In addition to locking the sash in the open position (use safety), it is now possible to close the sash in the closed position (safe transport).
