Types of tents

According to weather

The tents are different depending on the time of year for which they are intended. We find 4 types:

• Those of 2 seasons are tents for summer and spring. They do not withstand heavy rains or winds.
• Those of 3 seasons are the most common and are used for spring, summer and autumn. You could also use them in the winter but they are not prepared for heavy snow a high-thermal performance sleeping bag.
• Those of 4 seasons have the advantage of serving throughout the year but are more expensive and heavier. Therefore, if you do not have in mind camping with snow, it is not the most advisable model.
• Those of 5 seasons are professional-grade models. For the worst weather conditions and in any region of the world. They are obviously expensive.

According to Shape

There are tents for all kinds of uses (camping, trekking, cycling, high mountain...) and of various sizes (from 2 to 8 people).

• Igloo - Igloo-type camping tents are the most used. Igloo tents have a system of intersecting tent poles that give them the shape of a half ellipse.
• Canadian - Canadian type camping tents are the most characteristic, the typical triangular tents. Its main drawback is that the roof of the tent is an internal pole that goes inside the tent, at the rear. Not all the available space inside the living area.
• Tipi - Tipi tents, inspired by Native American tribes, usually have a central pole that supports the tent. While the pure tipis have a cone shape, with the flysheet extending directly to the ground. Tipi tents are designed for long stays, but there are very light polyester or nylon models that can be assembled very quickly.
• Tunnel - Tunnel tents are similar to igloos, since they usually have tent poles, but the structure of these tent poles does not cross, but rather they are aligned one after the other forming a tunnel. This allows to place the tent poles and most of the pegs with the tent completely stretched on the ground. When it is almost assembled, by tensioning the guy lines, the tent is raised, and then you can place the last pegs to secure it. This is very useful in very windy places.
