The stainless steel used in OPINEL scoops is an optimized grade to guarantee both high corrosion resistance and high mechanical performance.
The blade has an excellent edge and high abrasion resistance, allowing it to withstand regular contact with hard materials, such as ceramics, before needing to be resharpened. Stainless steel has the advantage of requiring no maintenance under normal use, unlike carbon steel. However, it can reach its limits when exposed to a harsh environment for extended periods (acid, salt water, detergent, etc.).
Handle
Beech is the most commonly used wood for Opinel handles. PEFC certified, it comes from sustainably managed forests in the Jura and Vercors regions. It is hard, durable, and easy to work. Its appearance is uniform, with a light color ranging from yellow to pink. It is recognizable by the presence of numerous small dark lines. The handle is varnished to protect it from moisture and dirt.
Safety Ring
Invented by Marcel Opinel, the Virobloc safety ring is found on all folding knives from size 06 and up. Cut from stainless steel, the Virobloc consists of two parts: a fixed part and a sliding part. In addition to locking the blade in the open position (safety during use), it also allows the blade to be locked in the closed position (safe transport).
